FREQUENCIES

Audiovisual collaborative project

AUTOCINE BAZAAR is an audiovisual project that is born from the exchange of ideas and material between artists from different places. The result of this process is a public and interactive audiovisual installation.

On the support of the traditional drive-in cinema, the work uses an FM signal to transmit the sound, emitting a radio signal that can be tuned by any viewer.

At the same time, it proposes its implementation in public spaces, on a wall or a building, giving the possibility of accessing it and interacting with the work using the own receiver radio.

Project development

The project “Frequencies” is framed as a platform for the diffusion of audiovisual content. This platform consists of a video projector and an audio station, including a radio transmitter that emits FM signal to the concurrent.

“Frequencies”, is designed to go from one locality to another, previously making a call by the producer group (BAZAAR) to other artists in the locality where the drive-in cinema is installed.

The intention is to develope as long as documenting the collective construction of audiovisual stories. It is a pioneering experience in recording new voices of audiovisual languages framed in a particular platform, reminiscent of a technical support of the past, but in full force in practicality and quality of the contents, as is the radio. Radio and video are integrated as complementary technological means. In this way, various expressions of technology are joined in time. Digital contents in communion with a classic and analogical support, primary in the history of communications.

The project is designed to be mounted in open and non-standard spaces. The implementation of FM as audio support avoids the use of big sound equipment and protects the landscape from environmental pollution that causes the audio at a high volume.

The use of radio as a support for audio also implies a revaluation of the radio object, allowing the use of resources usually available (cellular, car radio) and scarcely used to amplify the audio of live works. In this way, the project is approaching the idea of technological recycling and use of available technology.

The installation offers the public an active participation in the process of production and execution of the work through the use of its own radio, which will be used differently by each participant. Each one chooses at what volume to listen to the live show and under what conditions (headphones, car speakers, etc.). Each radio will sound the audio in a different way according to the characteristics of each equipment. The radio is within everyone's reach, and in all places the way of use is the same.

Of course it is stipulated to have some radios of their own so that the event does not exclude those who do not have radio. But many casual visitors can actively participate, with the sole condition of locating the dial of your radio on the frequency we use. The dial of the emisions will be broadcast previously and also in the place and surroundings.

Contents

“Frequencies” is a project of artistic collaboration and diffusion of contents about the relation of the man with the technology.

Each “Frequencies” event is developed from a previous call with a unique thematic proposal. This convoke is directed to the artists of the locality where the drive-in cinema is intended to install, including audio-visual musical projects, electronic projects, performances, etc. that can be developed through the proposed support (projections of video and sounds).

In turn, the BAZAAR artistic collective develops experimental music from electronic instruments (synthesizers, effects, rhythm machines) of homemade manufacture (DIY).

As for the image, the idea is to play with the supports (be it a building, a sculpture, a mountain, etc.) using the technique of video mapping, in this way, to make a revaluation of the projected element. A previous study is made to see what is offering each space from the architectural, social or simply visual point of view. This gives a unique character to each presentation.

Background

This proposal is based on a previous project "Radiodromo" carried out at Fundación Telefónica, Incentivo Interactivo 2011 award. This consists on an installation of several FM transmitters and the simultaneous emission in the same dial creating areas of influence that are perceived through the audio.

Since then, the concept of radio use has been expanded, and we have been developing audiovisual installations, inviting other artists from the city of La Plata to participate by projecting their contents. http://www.bazaarstudio.tk
